The Awareness-to-Decision Cycle is Gawdat's compact model of intelligence. It starts by sensing the surrounding environment, then analyzing and comprehending what those signals mean. The decision-maker adds temporal context by considering the past, present, and likely future, makes sense of the situation, and forms plans or solutions before choosing an action. The mechanism distinguishes intelligence from mere information storage: inputs become useful only after they are interpreted and converted into a decision. Although Gawdat uses the cycle to explain human and machine intelligence, it also works as a practical sensemaking loop for business, product, and personal decisions where the environment is changing faster than a fixed rulebook can accommodate.
